SWASTIKA SPOTTED AT SUPERSTORE-GRANT AND KENASTON

by Rhonda Spivak, April 27, 2011

On April 17, two days prior to the Beginning of the Passover holiday, Judy Plotkin, a reader of the  Winnipeg Jewish Review,  noticed a sizable green spray painted swastika in the parking  lot of  Superstore at Grant and Kenaston where customers  get shopping carts.

Plotkin photographed the swastika , and both she and  Martin Pollock,   brought the existence of the  swastika to the  attention of  Superstore.

"The lot only has two cameras that I could see--one at main entrance and the other at gas bar on, I think, each pump," Plotkin said.

By the  beginning of this week, the swastika was painted over,  but as  Plotkin said, "It wasn't painted very well. You can still see the outline of the image."

The Winnipeg Jewish Review reported this incident to  Allan Yusim of B'nai Brith, who had not otherwise been aware of it. It is not known at this time if this matter was reported by  Superstore to the police or what if any investigation has occured.

"I will report the incident to the  police, if it hasn't been reported yet," Yusim told the Winnipeg Jewish Review, and added that members of fthe community ought to be vigilent in reporting these incidents to  B'nai Brith 's hotline.

Last spring, there were a rash of swastikas painted in River Heights including: a sign on the lot of the nearby Chabad Learning Centre, a bus stop on Grant and Lanark and on several garages on River Heights.
